About Tenish

Tenish is a free daily number guessing and estimation game. Every day, everyone gets the same numerical trivia question, and five guesses to get as close as possible to the answer.

Questions come from all over: space, the human body, food, sport, history, geography, technology and everyday life. Some you’ll know. Most you’ll have to estimate.

You know when someone asks you the time and you say, “It’s ten…ish”? You might not know exactly. But you’re close enough.

That’s Tenish.

1. Read today’s question. The answer is always a number.
2. Type your guess.
3. You’ll be told whether the answer is higher or lower, and how close you are, from Freezing to Cold to Warm to Hot to Burning to Exact.
4. Guess again to get closer, or lock it in when you’re close enough. You have five guesses in total.
5. See the answer, where it comes from, and your score.

Every extra guess lowers the points on offer: up to 1,000, 850, 700, 550, 400 for guesses 1 to 5. The closer your locked-in guess, the more of that you keep, and an exact answer gets the lot.

Closeness is judged fairly for the size of the answer: being one out on a small number (“how many wheels does a tricycle have?”) counts as very close, and questions about years are judged in years.

That’s the whole game: guess again and risk points, or lock it in while you’re ahead.

When you’re done, you can share a spoiler-free result card: one emoji per guess showing how hot it was, your score and your accuracy. It never gives away the question or the answer, so friends can still play.

Is Tenish free?

Yes. Tenish is free to play in your browser. There's nothing to download and no account to create.

How many guesses do I get?

Five. You can lock in after any guess. If you use all five, your last guess is locked in for you.

Is there a new Tenish every day?

Yes. A new question unlocks every day at midnight in your time zone.

Does everyone get the same question?

Yes. Everyone gets the same question for the same date, so you can compare scores with friends.

Can I share my result?

Yes. After you finish, you can share a spoiler-free card: how hot each guess was, your score and your accuracy. It never includes the question or the answer.

Where are my streak and stats saved?

On your device, in your browser. There are no accounts, so clearing your browser data or switching devices starts them afresh.
